Google SketchUp - Google sketch up is a very easy to use 3d creation application. Program allows you to design all sorts of models and also linked with google earth to transfer your buildings and skyscapers straight over.
G.I.M.P - A 2D graphic creation tool. This is also free and could easily subsitute the very well known and popular photoshop.
DaFont - A great website too download fonts to customise your graphics. Most are free to use but have restrictions and licences applied to them.
Deviant Art - Somewhere in the vast menus of deviant art there is a photoshop resources page with user submitted plugins and brushes for photoshop. Most are free to use and can help with making graphics.
